Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth. In short - Kandy is the second largest city in Sri Lanka. It was the capital of the Sinhalese rulers until the arrival of the British in 1815. The temple was erected in the 17th century and houses the most important Buddhist relic - the Buddha's tooth. The room where it is stored only opens during worship. There is also Raja - an elephant, which took part in all the ceremonial processions until his death. Interestingly, the island on the adjacent lake served as a harem and access was only for members of the royal family through an underground tunnel.

Sigiriya - Lion Mountain is a 200-meter-high geological formation located almost in the heart of Sri Lanka, with an upper plateau of 1.6 hectares. It was named after the surviving lion's paws on the plateau under the rock. These are the remains of a lion statue, through the mouth of which a staircase led to the upper platform. Here are the remains of the foundations of buildings and temples, which were built here in the 5th century AD. There is also a pool-sized rainwater tank carved into the rock. It is worth mentioning the beautiful view in all directions. Below the mountain are the remains of an extensive water garden, from which stairs lead to the top. Halfway there are famous frescoes of women - of the original five hundred, twenty-two have been preserved. The whole area is one of the largest archeological sites and is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Dambulla and cave temple. Dambulla is currently a busy city, geographically in the center of Sri Lanka, on the edge of which is the Royal Cave Temple. The history dates back to the 1st century BC, when King Valagan Báhu, who had a cave temple built after his return to the throne, temporarily found refuge here, and his followers continued to do so. The temple consists of five separate caves, connected by a covered corridor. There are dozens of statues depicting the Buddha and some Hindu deities and countless paintings. From the caves there is a beautiful view to the Lion Mountain - Sigiriya. Finally, at the foot stands the new Golden Temple from the 20th century, with a 30-meter Buddha, which houses a museum.
Pinnewala is an elephant shelter for abandoned baby elephants and injured elephants. It was founded in 1975 as a state elephant shelter originally for 5 baby elephants. Now there are about 90 elephants, from baby elephants to adults, which are cared for by only a few mahauts. Even so, there is a fixed order with feeding and bathing in the adjacent river twice a day at the same time. The baby elephants are fed milk and all this is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Sri Lanka. Elephants are doing well here, they bring out one or two baby elephants a year. Unfortunately, none of the local elephants will ever return to the wild, as they will lose their ability to feed themselves.
